At least 26 people were killed and dozens injured as Israel launched fresh airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Monday, local media said. Israeli fighter jets conducted 10 airstrikes in the city of Nabatieh, leaving eight people dead and injuring several others, the state news agency NNA reported.

Israeli troops are understood to have made their deepest incursion into southern Lebanese territory since the recent offensive began on October 1, as the militant group Hezbollah considered its response to a fresh ceasefire proposal.

Hezbollah's media chief Mohammed Afif has been killed in an Israeli strike in central Beirut, according to news reports citing Lebanese security sources. A strike hit the headquarters of the Baath political party in the densely populated Ras al-Naba neighbourhood on Sunday, according to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency.
