The European Union is still hoping for a rough outline of a deal, even after President Trump talked about sending the bloc a letter outlining tariffs that would be imposed Aug. 1.

The European Union reported major progress in trade talks, signaling a deal with the U.S. may be imminent before a freshly revised Aug. 1 deadline.

The EU is aiming for a July 9 deal, which would include a 10 percent baseline tariff. Trump has threatened to impose 50 percent tariffs if no deal is reached.
