The Dolphins placed Waller on PUP at the start of camp -- which prohibits a player from practicing -- so that he could get himself into NFL game shape, and reduce the risk of injury, after spending last season in retirement. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said on WSVN-7 that Waller will be ready to contribute in the season opener.

The Miami Dolphins activated veteran tight end Darren Waller from the physically unable to perform list on Wednesday.

The former Pro Bowl tight end retired following the 2023 season with the New York Giants. However, Waller expressed his desire to return to the gridiron, and the Dolphins acquired the star tight end along with a 2027 conditional seventh-round pick in exchange for the Giants' 2026 sixth-round pick.

The Lions host Miami at Ford Field today at 1 p.m. ET with the game available on local FOX affiliates and multiple streaming platforms.
