LAS VEGAS — The Celtics released their Summer League roster on Tuesday but made one major addition before Friday’s opener against the Grizzlies. Boston brought aboard free agent center Charles Bassey to the roster in a surprise move, as the big man joined Amari Williams and Kenneth Lofton Jr. as the team’s primary bigs in Las Vegas.
Josh Primo will not appear in Summer League action for the Chicago Bulls, as the former Alabama guard entering year five did not make the trip to Las Vegas due to left foot soreness, the team announced. The injury is unrelated to the previous issue he was recovering from when he joined the Bulls on an Exhibit 10 contract last year.
Boston’s summer league roster is headlined by first-round pick Hugo González, joining other recent picks Jordan Walsh (2023) and Baylor Scheierman (2024) who are looking to crack Boston’s rotation next season.
Washington’s top pick this year (sixth overall) Tre Johnson, 21st pick Will Riley and 43rd pick Jamir Watkins saw their first action in a Wizards uniform. They were joined by 2024 first-round picks Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, AJ Johnson, Kyshawn George and Dillon Jones.
The Spurs have appeared to move on from Bassey after adding former Celtics bigs Kelly Olynyk and Luke Kornet to bolster their bench. The Celtics big man situation remains a work in progress after the departures of Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet and likely Al Horford.

Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, will be playing in the summer league for the second consecutive season. So will Jameer Nelson Jr., the son of former NBA point guard Jameer Nelson. He will be on San Antonio's summer league roster.
