The first step is to get the brightness right across the image. Here the shadows are a bit too dark so needed brightening.

The Colony's Affinity can be tracked in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 by using the game's Affinity Chart. The Affinity Chart displays the colonist's relationships along with a small profile for each NPC.

GIMP and Affinity Photo are two great Photoshop alternatives, but the latter is better in numerous ways. The asking price is worth it here.
