What early voting data says about NYC, Virginia and New Jersey elections heading into Tuesday
Early voting data suggests that Democratic candidates for governor in New Jersey and Virginia are heading into the final weekend in a slightly stronger position than Kamala Harris was at the same time last year.
More than 1.4 million Virginians voted early ahead of the governor’s race, setting a record and showing strong voter enthusiasm.
With one week until the Virginia gubernatorial election, Abigail Spanberger is ahead by seven points in the most recent poll.
Newsweek's tracker shows Spanberger with an 8 point lead over Earle-Sears, with 51 percent to Earle-Sears' 43 percent.
But the most telling results will come from gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia, two states that voted similarly in 2024 but may now be drifting in opposite directions. The results there will offer clues about the political weather before the midterms in November 2026.
