President Trump has loomed over the race for New Jersey governor. The Republican, Jack Ciattarelli, has run for the seat twice before, but this time he has the president’s endorsement. The Democrat, Representative Mikie Sherrill, has made opposition to Mr. Trump a focus of her campaign.

While attention has been paid largely to the competitive race for New Jersey governor, Garden State voters should also know that the entire General Assembly is up for grabs in November's general election. All 80 seats in the Legislature's lower chamber will be on the ballot. The current breakdown of the Assembly is 52 Democrats and 28 Republicans.

The Justice Department said it would send election monitors to one New Jersey county and five counties in California on Nov. 4 after local Republican groups said they were concerned about inconsistencies around election security.
