Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed legislation Friday designed to help convince the Royals to build their new stadium in the Northland, just across the Missouri River from downtown Kansas City.

The appointments came just days after a report became public criticizing vacancies on the commission, which left the panel unable to conduct investigations, issue fines or hold meetings.

On Friday, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed into law a bill that allows Clay County to create a Sports Complex Authority. The governor was surrounded by local and state leaders at Chappell’s, a well-known sports bar and museum in North Kansas City.

The new law would allow Clay County to create a governmental agency called a sports complex authority, similar to Jackson County’s which controls the leases for the teams.
