Here's what Saturday's results in a runoff election for Senate District 9 could mean for Tarrant County and beyond.
Democrat Taylor Rehmet flipped a Texas Senate seat in deep-red Tarrant County over the weekend. Now, the surprising win is raising alarms for Republicans in Texas — and beyond — ahead of November's midterm elections.
Rehmet will represent parts of northern Tarrant County. The district was previously represented by Republican Kelly Hancock and elected Donald Trump in 2024.
On Saturday night, Rehmet won the special runoff election by 14 percentage points, 57-43%.
