Manchester United’s academy product Álvaro Carreras will don the jersey of Los Blancos from next season onwards. In recent years, United’s academy have produced a number of top talents. However,
Manchester United will pocket a significant bonus after Real Madrid completed the long-awaited €50 million (£42m/$57m) signing of Alvaro Carreras.
With Benfica selling Carreras at a profit of around £38m, Manchester United are owed 20 per cent of that sum, which will see them pocket around £7.6m. Not a bad windfall on a player who made it to the bench for Premier League matches but never got on the pitch in a first team game for the Red Devils.
With a £7.2 million boost incoming from Álvaro Carreras’ move to Real Madrid, and an earlier £6 million banked from Anthony Elanga’s switch to Newcastle, United now find themselves with a £13 million injection at a critical moment.
Elanga joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest for £55million, while Carreras has moved to Real Madrid from Benfica in a £37million switch. They had a 15 per cent clause inserted into Carreras’ Benfica contract, and a 10 per cent sell-on for Elanga.
